Opera TV unveils new brand identity and becomes Vewd

Opera TV has introduced its new brand identity, including a logo and website, meant to better illustrate the company’s mission to enable entertainment everywhere through extraordinary OTT products and services. Vewd officially launched at IBC from September 15-19, where it is also showcasing enhancements to its core technology and preview its latest breakthrough products.

Since its early beginnings more than 15 years ago at Opera Software, Vewd set its course to pioneer industry-first products for smart TVs, set-top boxes, and content providers. Vewd’s team was acknowledged for delivering the browser engine in the Nintendo Wii, and shortly after for enabling the world’s first smart TV, launched by Philips. Vewd Core, formerly known as the Opera TV SDK, has become the most deployed HTML5 SDK in the industry. Shipping on nearly 50 million devices each year and more than 200 million devices in total, Vewd is the world’s largest connected TV device ecosystem.


As it enters the market with a new name and visual identity, Vewd continues to spearhead the industry’s transition to OTT. The company remains committed to leading the market with products and services that facilitate simple, reliable experiences for customers, partners and viewers. By enabling more than 1500 leading OTT apps and services, and offering over two million indexed videos through the Vewd App Store, Vewd connects consumers anywhere to the content they love.

  • New features leveraging the latest HbbTV standards, including dynamic content insertion and media synchronization, along with groundbreaking use cases which will be shown in partnership with the BBC and IRT;
  • Vewd App Store 2.1, now including the most demanded premium apps, and further supported by the industry’s most advanced TV App toolkit, Vewd Snap 3.0;
