Major new software release for Pablo Rio

At IBC 2013, Quantel showed the latest software for Pablo Rio. This is the fourth feature release in just six months adding to an already feature-rich toolset. The new software adds support for several new digital capture and file formats together with enhanced color control, as well as editing and conform improvements that further streamline workflows.

New digital capture format support includes soft-mounting of Canon RAW, Arri RAW, as well as import and soft-mount of Blackmagic Cinema DNG and Sony XAVC. A wide range of QuickTime soft-mount codecs are also now supported, including 8BPS, 2vuy, youv2, png, tga, tiff, jpeg, mjpa and mjpb. Also included is an option to create and import DCP packages via the well-established Fraunhofer toolset – see separate release.

The new Pablo Rio software exploits the power of the NVIDIA Tesla K20 to enable high speed unwrapping of soft-mounted files, helping to speed work through the Pablo Rio suite even more efficiently.

The Pablo Rio color toolset also gets a boost with support for highly accurate 65x65x65 tetrahedral color cubes for even greater color and keying precision. The S-Curve – key to manipulating highlights and lowlights for a ‘filmic’ look – has also been given additional functionality with an adjustable pivot point so the curve can be ‘rolled’ more toward the blacks or the whites, including separate RGB controls. This development increases creative control and allows the colorist to create more alternative ‘looks’ in the grading session.

Editing and conform improvements in the new Pablo Rio software cover F65 files and re-linking of Avid media, as well as improved soft-mount capabilities when conforming with file information.

“Pablo Rio and its unique all-in-one workflow, realtime 4K operation and fantastic productivity, is going from strength to strength,” said Martin Mulligan, Quantel Sales Director. “This latest software release for Pablo Rio – the fourth in only six months – ensures that our customers can continue to provide leading-edge, high quality color and finishing to directors and producers who are ever more rapidly embracing new digital capture formats and workflow choices.”
